Grosse Île, part of the Isle-aux-Grues archipelago in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, was used as a quarantine site for Irish migrants during the 19th century. It is believed that over 3,000 died there of typhus and other diseases. Also known as Grosse Isle and the Irish Memorial National Historic Site.
