In his 'Flora Indica', Roxburgh describes this species as a large tree, native of the mountainous parts of the coast. It flowers in January and February. Roxburgh also writes: 'It must have been the Telinga and Tamul names, which induced Konig to call this tree Mangifera silvestris.' Roxburgh then notes that the natives employ the wood of this plant for various purposes, and use the kernels as a substitute for almonds. The number appears to be missing from this illustration, although Sealy believed the illustration to be 'undoubtedly No.103'. There is also a drawing from the unnumbered set of the same species, different in appearance to this one.
