Comment by website user Nick Ritchie, 08/01/2020: “The house on the left is still extant although it has been extended and divided into two, Ivy Cottage and Clifton View Cottage. Ivy cottage is thought to be the place where the astronomer William Crabtree made the first observation of the Transit of Venus in 1639, which is celebrated in one of the Manchester Murals in Manchester Town Hall. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Crabtree There's another view of Broughton Spout at: http://www.victorianweb.org/painting/manchester/27.html The watercolour in the Royal collection by William Wyld "Manchester from Kersal Moor" painted in 1852 would have been painted about a mile or so to the north of Broughton Spout, somewhere near Moor End Avenue. see: https://www.watercolourworld.org/painting/manchester-kersal-moor-tww004195. Kersal Moor is still extant but is now smaller and doesn't stretch as far as the viewpoint of this painting.”
