Description

This is a page from a bound volume containing watercolours and drawings by William Edward Hall (1835-1894). Some pages are dated, ranging from 1858 to 1869. Places depicted include Belgium, Germany, Italy, France, Switzerland, Denmark, Scotland, Chile and Peru. The artist William Edward Hall was in Denmark during the Second Schleswig War (fought between an Austro-Prussian alliance and Denmark from 1 February – 30 October 1864). In sketches dated late March 1864 he depicts forts and shelling on the site of the Battle of Dybbøl (fought 7-18 April 1864).
