Description

Medium includes pen and black ink. Inscribed, as title, in pencil with the following additions in the same hand: 'original drawing by W. J. Pocock Esq' and, bottom right, 'engd by R. Hav[ell?]'. It shows Lord Exmouth's attach on the city to release Christian slaves in 1816, with the fortified lighthouse at the end of the harbour breakwater. Poocock was the naval son of the marine painter Nicholas Pocock, and himself a very competent amateur artist.
