Drawing, 'Belfry, Burford Church, Oxon' by Dr William Crotch (1775-1847), watercolour on paper, undated; 23.5 cm x 22.5 cm; inscription in brown ink bottom centre 'Belfry Burford Church Oxon'; inscription in brown ink on reverse 'Burford Church / Oxon'; inscription label 'In 682 the Kings Etheldred and Borthwald held here a / Council in wch Aldholm Abbot of Malmsbury (afterwards / Bp of Shirburn) was commanded to write against the errors / of the British Church relating to the time of observing Easter / A battle fought near the town in 752 the place still called / Battle Edge. In Edgehill? / The lower part of the Tower and Belfry meant to be seen from ye inside / of ye Church is Norman'
