Description

Watercolour painting of 'Capri from L'Hotel Tiberio'

R.T. May 25 1870.

Mount Vesuvius can be seen to the right of the bell tower, in the distance with smoke rising from the crater. In a letter to Henry Fox Talbot, (19th May 1855), Rosamond includes the following about the view from the hotel in which she stayed “…and in full view of Vesuvius with an almost imperceptible wreath of white vapour issuing from its crater.”
