Description

Ink drawing on paper of a Catholic priest (in St. Mary's Cathedral, Halifax) performing the concluding rite of absolution at the bier (commendation); priest with aspergillum in his hand, sprinkling holy water on a coffin, which is supported on a catalfaque; an altar server at centre in red soutane, holds an aspersorium (holy water container).

Inscription

Centre bottom: "Requiescat in pace. Ite missa est." In lower right: "Sanct. Mar. Cathed. Kal Oct. Anno MDCCCLI." In pencil across bottom: "Oct. 1851"
