Bridges was a successful watercolourist known for her poetic depictions of plants and wildlife. She was born in Salem, Massachusetts, but in the 1870s and 1880s made multiple visits to Oliver Ingram Lay in Stratford, Connecticut. The area's flats and meadows were of particular interest to her.
