Figure for the paper “Account of the hurricane that passed over Roehampton & parts adjacent in October 1780. Illustrated by four drawings made on the spot a few days after the storm”, by Edward Edwards. Landscape showing two surviving trees near Barnes Common with felled trees lying in the foreground. These are being inspected by a fashionable couple in outdoor clothes, with the male figure pointing to a tree root with a cane or walking stick. Barnes Poorhouse is visible on the horizon, which Edwards describes in his text as a new building [constructed in 1778]. The painting shows some superficial damage to roof and chimneys. The mount is initialled lower left “E.E. 1780” and inscribed lower right “No.3”.
