Description

Inscribed 'J. Locker 1829'. Part of the Michael Graham-Stewart slavery collection. For further information on black sailors see Bolster (1997:4): 'ships and boats were a pipeline to freedom and a refuge for slaves on the lam.. Seamen wrote the first six autobiographies of blacks published in English before 1800.'
