Description

Satire: scene in a monastery with monks, together with a young woman, retreating behind a curtain as a thin lay-brother enters; the fat Father Paul, holding bread and a glass of wine, upbraids the other man for disturbing their prayers; a painting of the marriage at Cana hangs on the wall. 10 November 1777. Hand-coloured mezzotint.
