In 'Flora Indica', Roxburgh reports that this species is a tree "of a middle size and handsome; it yields an inferior sort of Gamboge, and the fruit [is] edible, though not the most palatable. It is a native of Chittagong, and flowers in February; the fruit ripens in June". Roxburgh, 'Flora Indica' (1832) v.2, p.622.
