Watercolour illustration commissioned by William Roxburgh. ROX2517.

According to Roxburgh this species is indigenous of Mascal Island [in the Bay of Bengal, off Chittagong] and its trunk is '...so immensely large, as to be made into canoes by the Mug inhabitants.' It flowers in January.
