Description

A young Italian girl in traditional costume sits in the shade of a tree and her arm rests on a wall overlooking the countryside. She is dressed in a Sorrento costume, of the Amalfi coast. She wears a red velvet bodice, richly adorned with golden trimmings on the shoulders and back. The fitted sleeves stop at the elbow and reveal a white shirt embroidered with red threads. Her wide blue turquin skirt, tinted with indigo, is covered by an apron. She holds in her hand a bouquet or a hat adorned with flowers. Her hairstyle, in two separate braids, ends in a knotted bun with a large red ribbon. Papety here takes a real interest in the ethnographic precision of the costume.
