A watercolour drawing of a maid standing at a window in a domestic interior, making pats of butter at a table, surrounded by dairy equipment.
Thomas Sandby lived at Sandpit Gate in Windsor from about 1746, where he was employed by William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland. After settling in London in 1752, Paul Sandby often visited his elder brother at Windsor and made several drawings of domestic scenes at Sandpit Gate.
