Lake District Fells, Borrowdale, circa 1850-58, watercolour by William James Blacklock (1816-1858). A view of the Lake District fells above Borrowdale on a fine summer's day. A track winds through centre of composition across moorland interspersed with juniper bushes and birch trees. Beyond rise rocky fells receding into distance. Blacklock is one of Cumbria's most important landscape painters. He painted the scenery of Cumbria, the Lake District and the Borders and particularly favoured remote areas. He painted these landscapes in his own uniquely precise style.
