Description

Two women in exotic dress wearing turban headdresses decorated with clusters of round beads at the ears, at a fabric stall under a wooden awning set against the side of a wooden building; the nearest on the right hand holding a piece of cloth which the other inspects, her back to the viewer; illustration to Robert Johnston's 'Travels through Parts of the Russian Empire and the Country of Poland; along the Southern Shores of the Baltic' (London: 1816); after Robert Johnston. 1815. Hand-coloured mezzotint with etching.

Lettered below the image with the title, and 'R.t Johnson del.t // H. Dawe Sculp.t // Pub. 11th. June 1815 by J.J. Stockdale 41 Pall Mall.'
