Llanberis Falls near Dolbadarn Castle

Description

Watercolour; signed and inscribed in pen by artist on reverse: Cataract near Dobladeon Castle, Lanberis, Caernarvon, Paul Sandby; followed by pencil notes in the same hand and the artist’s monogram: P. S. (H. 50cm, W. 34cm)

On the back of the watercolour are the artist’s notes, identifying this as Llaberis Falls in Snowdonia. He later added to this description in pencil: Now called Caunant Mawr, or the Great Chasm situated in the mountain hollow of Cwm Brwynog about to a mile from the Victoria Hotel at Llanberis. Both inscriptions are signed by the artist.
