Description
A watercolour showing a male figure playing a piano, possibly Ludvig van Beethoven. The figure is shown full-length, seated on a piano stool and facing right in profile. He is playing a grand piano and looking up to a portrait bust on a plinth to the right.

Inscribed lower right: by Col Colville 18879 [sic]
The Honourable William James Colville was an amateur draughtsman and caricaturist. He was the Treasurer to Princess Louise's brother, Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, from 1871 to 1894 and became Master of Ceremonies in 1893.
