Mock Astronomers c.1800

A drawing of a group of men with telescopes, outside an inn, obversing the inn-sign of the sun and its reflection in the punch bowl on table. An owl on top of the sign. A monkey, left, looks through the wine bottle as if it were a telescope. Probably preparatory to Eckstein's satirical print 'The Transit of Mercury', which probably dates to around 1800.
