William James Bennett
Scope and content: View of the Horseshoe Falls at Niagara from the upper river. Four figures (a man, woman, and two younger girls) sit on blankets having a picnic. Beside them are two goats. This work has been identified as the "Large coloured print of Niagara Falls with persons on picnic shown in foreground" in an inventory of Col. Macpherson's house. It is also probably one of a series of six views of Niagara Falls painted and engraved by Bennett, the "British Fall from Goat Island" published in 1831.
Signature and inscriptions: Inscription - in pencil, recto of folio page, l.r. - Sir E. Head / 1860-61.
