Description

Coloured etching by William Hodges, 1785.
Chunar or Chunargarh was the favourite residence of Warren Hastings, governor-general of India. Hastings was also Hodges' patron The sandstone rock upon which Chunar is situated was also the major source of building material for the city of Varanasi
