Description

Pinwell, along with Fred Walker and John William North, were important Pre-Raphaelite illustrators during the 1860s. During that decade they rented Halsway Manor in Somerset on the edge of the Quantock Hills. This watercolour, which relates to a large watercolour exhibited at the Old Watercolour society Winter Exhibition of 1869-70, shows the cross at Bicknoller, a village near Halsway.
