Description

A watercolour of an old man in a fur dressing gown, a peacock fan in his right hand, addressing four young women, one of whom holds a paper headed 'potion'. On a chair to the right, a Bible lies open at 'Isaiah'. In a niche behind the man are wooden figures. This is presumably the drawing exhibited by Eckstein at the Royal Academy in 1799 as 'A Fortune-teller'. A note on the modern mount states that 'Poor Holms' was written on the back of the drawing.

Descriptive Medium: 'Pen and ink with watercolour'
