Description

View of the north side of Portman Square, built around 1764, as it appeared at the beginning of the nineteenth century; a pillaster fronted building on immediate right, Home House, later to be used for the Courtauld Institute to the left; a soldier on horseback in square in front, part of a lawned area with trees and shrubs surrounded by iron railings in centre of square on left; illustration from the Repository of Arts, volume 10 part 56. 1813. Etching and aquatint with hand-colouring.
