A watercolour showing Carlton House just after it was taken over by George, Prince of Wales in 1783. The building is ramshackle and construction work is taking place in the left foreground. Bélanger was the brother of one of the French designers who worked with Henry Holland on Carlton House in the early 1780s. Bélanger made a number of watercolour views of England during a visit in the 1780s. A view of the entrance to Carlton House gardens is also in the Royal Collection (RCIN 917617)
