Description

The Schloss Rosenau from the south-east, from the gardens of the Swiss Cottage. Signed with initials in monogram "H Brückner". The Rosenau was the birth place of Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, consort of Queen Victoria. This watercolour was probably acquired by Prince Albert during a visit to Coburg after his father's death in 1844, or during the royal couple's visit the following year. The watercolour was included in one of three albums of views of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha.
