Description

Gum arabic is frequently used by watercolour painters to saturate and darken areas of pigment. It is very hygroscopic (absorbent of water) and will react dramatically to changes in humidity. If you look through the magnifier you can see that dense patches of gum arabic on the surface of the drawing have cracked and 'crazed'.
