A watercolour of an exterior winter scene. Two sleighs are travelling over the snow; a house is in the immediate background with trees in the far background. The focal point is the sleigh located in the centre of the composition; this sleigh is being pulled by two horses and has two seated passengers. The passengers are seated in two separate sections; one section is in front of the other and the front section is slightly elevated. A second sled is depicted on the left; the driver of this horse drawn sleigh is standing up.
Item is hinged to a secondary support and has a windowed mat. The primary support is a brown paper.
According to Burke's Landed Gentry, Sir Arthur James Herbert served with the Royal Welch Fusiliers. The Fusiliers were in Canada from 1838 - 1853 (Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec) and from 1866-67 (Quebec).
