Reputed to be the oldest existing Christian building in the West and one of the most prominent examples of Merovingian architecture. Abandoned during the French Revolution and used as a warehouse. Subsequently rescued and restored. At the time of this painting thought to have originally been a pagan temple but now recognised as always a place for baptism. Ref Wikipedia
