Description
A watercolour of a street with buildings on both sides, busy with people enjoying the fair. To the left, women are gathered around a costermonger's barrow. On balconies erected in front of two buildings on the right, 'Grotte Marionette' or actors entertain the crowds beneath painted backdrops. Banners on the main building on the right read, DE VEROVERING VAN CAIRO and GROTE SCHIMMEN (partly obscured). Signed and dated in the bottom left corner: J: A: Langendijk, Dzn invt et delint 1803. This forms a pair with RCIN 915239.
