Description

Landscape, with figures on a sandy road; a road leading up between a bank with trees, hedges at the top of a slope and a gabled building beyond, two women seated by the road at left and a man leading a horse and cart at right. c.1632. Pen and brown ink, with watercolour, heightened with white (oxidised), over graphite. Verso: A village pond; with houses and trees beyond reflected in the water, a boy leaning on a fence at far right. Black chalk, touched with red chalk, on two sheets conjoined.
