Description

The serpent eater, one of 68 drawings of birds and fish; black bird with touches of yellow, red and blue plumage, in profile to left, the head turned to look over its shoulder at another bird behind on the right, a lake and hills in the background. c.1648-1664. Pen and grey and brown ink, grey wash, with watercolour.
