Attributed to Jean Bérain, the elder
An unidentified character, from a series of eight drawings of Commedia dell'Arte characters, possibly studies for, but more probably copies of a series of anonymous engravings after Berain; man whole-length, laughing and dancing, with hands out-stretched, wearing a pink cap, blue doublet with pink and blue slashed sleeves, breeches and green stockings, a landscape with river, trees and a group of buildings behind. 1692. Pen and grey ink, with grey wash and watercolour, over graphite; indented for transfer.
