Description

A view of the remains of Merrion Castle, Co. Dublin. Two men walking in front of the castle point at something in the distance, while a dog runs ahead.

Merrion Castle was built in the early fourteenth century and was located opposite the present day Merrion Gates. It was the principal seat of the Fitzwilliam family. When they moved to Mount Merrion House, the castle fell into ruin and was demolished in 1780. No trace of it remains today.
