Paardenveld is today a street in the historic city centre. The Cleeff was a mill that stood on the Peerdevelt on the city wall before De Meyboom tower mill on the west corner of the Paardenveld was built in 1744 and the flour mill De Raephout (later Harthals) is moved from the Biltstraat to the Paardenveld and rebuilt in the north corner in 1745.
