Description

A watercolour showing a view of Phoenix Park from Viceregal Lodge, Dublin. The gardens are shown in the foreground with trees and bushes. A low balustrade is shown behind with further trees and mountains in the background. Inscribed lower right: Aug: 9th. Queen Victoria visited Ireland for the first time in August 1849. The Queen arrived at the Cove of Cork on 2 August 1849 after sailing from Osborne with Prince Albert and their four eldest children the day before. They sailed up to Dublin and stayed at the Viceregal Lodge in Phoenix Park from 6 to 10 August 1849.
