A watercolour showing a young shepherdess. After a German picture. The girl is shown full-length, standing and facing forward. She is holding a lamb in her arms, along with her shepherdess crook. She is wearing peasant dress with bare feet and flowers in her hair. Inscribed lower right: Louise. May 24 - /61.

Queen Victoria's children often made cards and drawings for their parents as gifts on important dates, such as this watercolour by Princess Louise for her mother's birthday on 24th May 1861.
