Description
Inscription reads: These Octagon Towers, which compose the Third Gateway in Alnwick Castle, leading into the Innermost Court, were erected about 1350, by Henry Lord Percy, Grandfather of the First Earl of North-umberland; They are of the finest Masonry, and after so many Ages have never needed or received the least Repair. They are adorned with the arms of Tyson, Veley, Cliffor, Arundel, Bohun, Lancaster, Warren, Percy, Umsneville, Neville of Fitz Walter. The lower part contains ... Portions; each of which has a deep Dungeon under it.
