Inscribed: "Sketches from Norway, 1854" ; lower right: "Our house in Bolstadoren".
This is a page from a sketchbook belonging to Robert Elwes recording his travels in Norway, 1854. The sketchbook contains ten watercolours and bears the handwritten inscription 'Mary Frances Elwes from her affectionate husband Robert Elwes, 1854'. Robert’s wife his wife Mary (1829-1886) accompanied him on the 1854 visit to Norway.
