Milton's House, Barbican; a row of four-storey houses with shopfronts at ground level, a brush and comb shop with brooms, baskets and brushes hanging up outside, a dyer's shop with brightly coloured fabrics in the window, a newsagents's shop, and on the far right a wire weaver's shop, in the foreground to the left a drayman attends to his horse, a man in top hat weighted down with numerous packages and boxes stands in the centre next to a woman in a long shawl, a child carrying a tray stands outside the newsagents and to the far right stand a family group comprising a mother, a child, and a father holding a baby. 1857 Watercolour with bodycolour over graphite.
