Description

Watercolour painting with a pen and ink border of an architectural painting showing the Badshahi Mosque (Jami Masjid), Lahore. The painting shows the front gate and inner courtyard of the mosque within a walled enclosure. The mosque is set on a plinth on the western wall of the Lahore Fort and has three white domes above an arcaded façade of red sandstone. On each of the four corners of the enclosure are octagonal minarets. The mosque was built between 1673-74 by the Emperor Aurangzeb and modelled on the Jami Masjid in Delhi.
