Charlotte Munro was the sister of Thomas Munro, a patron of leading artists (including John Sell Cotman, Thomas Girtin, William Turner and Peter De Wint) and the controversial Principal Physician at Bethlem Royal Hospital. The Monros had been leading figures at 'Bedlam' for years, but Thomas Monro was fired from his position in 1815 after the mistreatment of patients at the facility was uncovered.
