Description

Watercolour illustration commissioned by William Roxburgh. ROX215. In his 'Flora Indica' Roxburgh remarked, 'The fresh roots are almost insipid. The natives make a preserve of them, which they deem wholesome, and nutritious; the dry root does not at all resemble the Costus arabicus of the shops'. Roxburgh, 'Flora Indica' (1832) v.1, p.58.
