Description

Von Hauslab is a little known figure in the history of art. As private tutor to the future Emperor Franz Joseph I, a high-ranking military officer, and innovative cartographer, he traveled widely. The loose and expressive treatment of the landscape and sky in his watercolor contrast with the minute precision of another drawing of the same unidentified building in the collection (53.600.3637). Medium: watercolor over graphite.
