Description

The watercolour depicts a winter view of Long[ue] Point[e] on the island of Montréal, showing fine detail of the parish church and the buildings immediately around it. In the foreground are two types of carioles driving along the 'ice bridge' which is lined with tree markers.
The watercolour was discoloured and soiled. There were curious abrasions in the sky which seem to indicate that someone may have attempted to remove some surface marks from the work. Around the abrasions there were small black specks (ink?). There was a large surface mark on the right side near the church steeple. On the verso upper edge was a newspaper remnant glued to the work.
Fomerly the property of Alexander Napier Chinnery-Haldane, 'Gleneagles', Perth shire, Scotland (grandson of the artist).
