Description

A watercolour sketch of Elgin Cathedral, Moray; no other information is given. The Hutton Collection contains four other drawings pertaining to Elgin Cathedral, by various artists. In its heyday, Elgin Cathedral was the largest and most impressive building of its kind after St Andrews. Founded in 1224, it is now a magnificent ruin, managed by Historic Scotland. It boasts a fine octagonal vaulted chapter house, a Pictish cross slab, a large stone statue of a bishop, and table tombs in its burial ground.
