Description

Watercolour painting sparsely coloured on paper, of the main gateway of the Taj Mahal complex. The gateway is built of brick and faced in red sandstone and in places white marble. It has a high arch surrounding the entrance which has a second level above decorated with alcoves. A domed kiosk crowns each corner of the square building which is raised up on a plinth and flanked by low level arcades. The gateways surfaces are decorated by inlaid coloured marbles and gemstones creating floral patterns and inscriptions surrounding the gate. The painting is framed by a thick black line.
