Description

The text underneath reads, 'The sketch shows the ruins of the Conventual Church'. It records deteriorated walls, with arches and niches cut into them - all covered with lush under growth and ivy. Both the archaeological and documentary history of the Ardchattan site remains quite fragmented and inconclusive. The Priory came into being in 1230 as a house of the Valliscaulian Order but over the next 500 years the monastery, private housing and the parish church all existed here.
